Rivian R1T and R1S Prices Plummet as R2 Looms on the Horizon

As the automotive world continues to shift towards electric vehicles, Rivian is at the forefront, with its R1T and R1S models already making waves in the used car market. The R2, set to launch in the $40,000 range, has been generating buzz among enthusiasts, but what makes this early access so significant? For starters, the R2’s price point is expected to be a major draw, making it an attractive option for those looking to enter the EV market.

However, if the R2’s price is still out of reach, Rivian’s earlier models offer a more affordable alternative. The R1T, in particular, has seen a significant drop in value, with examples currently listed for under $40,000. In fact, I found at least eight R1Ts priced below $40,000, with some listings as low as $37,500 for a 2022 Launch Edition model with 99,180 miles on it. The interior, despite being driven quite a bit, appears to be holding up relatively well, with only minor cosmetic imperfections.

In contrast, the R1S SUV has yet to see any listings for under $40,000, making it a more expensive option for those looking for a used Rivian. However, it’s worth noting that prices for the R1S are likely to drop significantly once the R2 goes on sale. As the EV market continues to mature, we can expect to see more models like the R2 enter the market, driving down prices for earlier models.

For now, the R1T remains the only affordable option for those looking to purchase a used Rivian. But with the R2 on the horizon, it’s clear that Rivian is committed to making its electric vehicles accessible to a wider range of buyers.
