### The Unlikely Off-Roader: A Family’s 2,400-Mile Rally dos Sertões Adventure
When the 911 Dakar was first unveiled, many thought it was a niche car, only suited for enthusiasts who wanted to take their Porsche on a weekend getaway. However, a family of Porsche enthusiasts proved those doubters wrong by taking their lifted 911 Dakar on a 2,400-mile rally across Brazil.
Susele Piotto Vogt and her husband Fredy, along with their son João Pedro, embarked on the 33rd edition of the Rally dos Sertões, an annual off-road rally that spans thousands of miles across Brazil. The Porsche 911 Dakar was entered into the Expedition category, meaning it wasn’t competing in any official class. The family’s goal was to prove the 911 Dakar’s prowess on an off-road adventure.
The rally was just the beginning of their adventure. The Piotto Vogt family road-tripped an additional 2,000 miles to get to the starting point of the rally in Goiânia and then back home from the finish line in Marechal Deodoro. This was hardly their first rodeo, as they had previously competed in the rally four times at the helm of a UTV.
“We weren’t sure if the Porsche would be able to handle the route,” Susele told Porsche. “But those concerns evaporated the moment we crossed the river. The Dakar also served as our hotel. We slept in the roof tent in the heart of the wilderness.”
The 911 Dakar’s lifted design proved to be more than capable of handling the rugged terrain. The family faced numerous challenges, from navigating river crossings to tackling steep inclines, but the car handled each obstacle with ease.
“Cayman, Macan, Taycan, Panamera E-Hybrid, several 911 generations, 718 Boxster, Cayenne: We’ve tried out just about every new model,” said Fredy. “As a collector, you want to keep them all.” However, Susele says the 911 Dakar is her preferred daily driver.
“I use the 911 every day,” she said. Can’t say we blame her. The 911 Dakar’s lifted design and impressive off-road capabilities make it the perfect vehicle for adventure-seekers.
### A Family’s Passion for Porsche
The Piotto Vogt family’s love for Porsche runs deep. They’ve owned a variety of models over the years, including the Cayman, Macan, Taycan, and Panamera E-Hybrid. However, it’s the 911 Dakar that holds a special place in their hearts.
“We weren’t sure if the Porsche would be able to handle the route,” Susele said. “But those concerns evaporated the moment we crossed the river. The Dakar also served as our hotel. We slept in the roof tent in the heart of the wilderness.”
The family’s passion for Porsche is evident in their adventure. They’ve taken their 911 Dakar on numerous off-road excursions, and it’s clear that they’re committed to pushing the car to its limits.
### A New Chapter for the 911 Dakar
The Piotto Vogt family’s adventure has brought new attention to the 911 Dakar. The car’s lifted design and impressive off-road capabilities make it a unique addition to the Porsche lineup.
