### The Toyota bZ Woodland: A Family-Friendly Electric SUV with a Wagon Twist
The Toyota bZ Woodland is an electric SUV that defies categorization. It’s not a traditional wagon, nor is it a standard SUV. Instead, it’s a unique blend of both, with a wagon-like roofline and a more upright D-pillar. But don’t let its appearance fool you β this car is designed to tackle the great outdoors, and it’s more than capable of keeping up with its off-road ambitions.
### Power and Performance
The bZ Woodland’s powertrain is its most significant selling point. With a dual-motor setup producing 375 horsepower and 37 more than the bZ, this electric SUV is quick and agile. The acceleration is instant, with the nose pointing upward as speed rapidly builds. Overtaking slower traffic on two-lane roads is a breeze, and Toyota claims the bZ Woodland can get to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, or nearly two seconds quicker than the 214-hp all-wheel-drive bZ4X we tested.
### Interior and Cargo Space
The interior of the bZ Woodland is virtually identical to that of the standard bZ, with a 14-inch touchscreen and a digital gauge cluster. The infotainment is easy to use, and the bZ Woodland retains physical controls for important functions such as temperature and volume. The cabin is spacious, with plenty of legroom and headroom for all passengers. The rear seat is similarly spacious, with plenty of legroom and an extra 1.3 inches of headroom afforded by the more wagon-like roofline.
The cargo area is also impressive, with 34 cubic feet of space behind the second row and up to 74 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. This is a significant improvement over the standard bZ, which has 28 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row.
### Off-Road Capability
The bZ Woodland’s extra length and more upright D-pillar make it more suitable for off-road excursions. We took the car on a test drive on a dirt road and found it to be more than capable of tackling rough terrain. The electric motors provided plenty of torque to scale the uphill section, and the X-Mode system found plenty of traction and managed the vehicle’s speed when returning downhill.
### Pricing and Range Estimates
The bZ Woodland starts at $46,750, with the Premium trim requiring $48,850. While the range estimates aren’t stellar, especially with the all-terrain tires, the bZ Woodland makes up for it with plenty of power, a smooth ride, and lots of standard equipment. Toyota predicts the Woodland can travel 281 miles on a charge in its standard configuration, and selecting the Dunlop Grandtrek AT30 all-terrain tires knocks the estimate down to 260 miles.
### Verdict
The Toyota bZ Woodland is an appealing option for families looking to go electric. Its unique blend of power, range, and off-road capability makes it a compelling choice for those who want a family-friendly SUV that can handle the great outdoors. With its spacious interior, comfortable ride, and impressive towing capacity, the bZ Woodland is a great choice for those looking for a versatile and practical electric vehicle.
